Welcome to
The North Highland College
The North Highland College exists to help you achieve progress towards academic or informal education, or simply to develop your areas of interest. The education and training programmes which we provide are designed to be studied at your own pace and many of them are suitable for home study or e-learning.
Many of the courses we offer reflect the distinctive needs and strengths of the area, including equestrian studies, gamekeeping, nuclear sciences, veterinary nursing, acting and performance, and Scotland's first golf management degree.
All of our programmes are designed to focus on progression so that career choices are clearly defined. National Certificate programmes articulate directly into Higher National Certificates, diplomas, and degree level study, with postgraduate research a viable option. Pre-vocational and access courses are also available for those who for whatever reason do not feel confident in their preparation for formal study. Our staff are here to support you throughout, and whilst you study with us they will ensure that you are included in the wider community of learners. Indeed, today's technology provides a valuable online arena for interaction through the use of our virtual learning environment.
The North Highland College is both a further education provider and as a UHI partner, a higher educational institute. Our four main campuses are based in Thurso, Wick, Dornoch, and Alness and represent our commitment to the immediate area. Beyond this a wider, electronically linked network of centres ensures that programmes can be delivered into remoter local areas, or into regions beyond our traditional footprint. To fully embrace this, we provide an ever increasing number of programmes through online delivery. Our Care, Hospitality, Tourism, Vet Nursing, and Radiation Protection courses are excellent examples of this.
This college is here for the benefit of communities across the north Highlands. Let us know your needs and we will do everything we can to help you to reach your goal. The UHI Millenium Institute
The North Highland College is a partner of UHI Millenium Institute - the future University Of The Highlands And Islands.
UHI is a unique partnership of fifteen colleges and research institutions across the Highlands and Islands. Each college and research institution has its own distinctive character and strengths. This means that students of UHI can share in the educational advantages of a larger institution whilst benefiting from the personal attention which a smaller college, like The North Highland College, can provide.
UHI's mission is to play a pivotal role in the educational, economic, social and cultural development of the region through the establishment of a University of the Highlands and Islands.
