    GOLF STUDIES National Certificate

    Qualification
    National Certificate Golf Studies

    SCQF level : 6

    Requirements Access is designed to be as flexible as possible, allowing for a wide range of backgrounds. Normal entry requirements are 4 standard grades at level 3/4 (including English), while equivalent qualifications also will allow access. Mature students with relevant work-based experience are welcome to apply and will be considered on an individual basis.

    Start Annually in August, with the first entry scheduled for August 2007

    Duration One year full time

    Career The course is broad enough to allow progression into all aspects of the golf industry as well as fitness, tourism, business and professional golf. You could progress onto an HNC Golf Management course (also available at North Highland College -Dornoch), or to a number of related courses at other Higher Education institutions.

    Course description

    The NC Golf Studies is aimed at those interested in a career in the golf industry who have a keen interest in the sport in general. We aim to provide a broad range of subjects which cover all aspects of the golf world. These will give a basis from which candidates can progress onto several different paths including golf management, green-keeping, fitness, tourism, course architecture and professional golf.

    The range of subjects allows for in-class academic learning alongside practical application of skills on the golf course and in the gym, as well as on multiple site experiences at a variety of golf facilities. A work placement unit is also incorporated within the course, providing students with the opportunity to experience the industry first hand before deciding which direction may be best to continue their learning.

    Some of the subjects you could be studying include:

    Golf: club procedures, rules and course preparation

    Golf rules, handicapping and etiquette

    Sporting activity - golf

    Golf caddying 1 - an introduction

    Introduction to the game of golf

    Golf course design and layout

    Human physiology in the development of performance

    Exercise and resistance training

    Business enterprise

    Selling skills

    Even organisation

    Numeracy

    Information technology

    Work experience

    Communication

    First aid measures
