    Course description

    Who can join?

We would welcome an application from anyone who has 4 standard grades at level 3 or above and 2 Highers (preferably English and Maths or Computing) or One or more relevant HN units or mature students with related work experience.

    How do I attend?

You can study this course on a part time basis,2 – 4 hours per week over one year, possibly by twilight or evening class.

This course can also be delivered intensively over one week, if there is sufficient demand.

The course is available at both The NHC-Thurso and the NHC-Alness.

    What will I study?

You will study two Microsoft courses: Supporting Users Running the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System and Supporting Users Running Applications on a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System. Candidates are then required to pass the two associated Microsoft core exams to achieve the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) and become a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).

    What could I do next?

The MCDST qualification gives industry recognition of your skills to successfully troubleshoot desktop environments running on the Microsoft Windows operating system. This would give you a good grounding to gain employment in IT Support. You could also choose to further your studies and progress to a full HNC in Computing, receiving 3 credits worth of transfer by completing MCDST.
