    Flexible study courses designed to provide you with a Microsoft Office Specialist qualification in many Microsoft software applications.


    Course description

    How do I attend?

    This course is designed to be done by flexible study which can be done at home or in the college or a combination of both. Students have the opportunity to practice their skills and test themselves through mock tests online.

    The Microsoft Office Specialist is available on a drop-in day or evening basis over 18 weeks. You will need to attend the college to sit assessments. We operate this as a rolling programme, as one student finishes a place is created for the next person on the waiting list. 

    The course is offered at Thurso and Alness, and will run depending on numbers enrolled. It may be attended on a part time day or evening basis, or as a flexible study course, with some home study and some college attendance.  The day and times are variable.

    What will I study?

    The first step is to identify the application you would like a qualification in:

    • Microsoft Word - available at Word 2003 Core Level and Word 2003 Expert Level             

    • Microsoft Excel - available at Excel 2003 Core Level and Excel 2003 Expert Level

    • Microsoft Outlook - available at Outlook Core Level

    • Microsoft PowerPoint - available at PowerPoint Core Level

    • Microsoft Access - available at Access Core Level

    • Microsoft Project - available at Project Core Level

    What could I do next?

    The MOS certification will help advance your acreer by giving you a competitive edge, crucial for achieving and sustaining success. The certification identifies you as an individual with proven expertise in Microsoft Office programmes.

    Microsoft Office Specialist is Microsoft's only official desktop certification programme. it is available in Core and Expert level for Word and Excel and Core Level in PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. Each application is examined and certified in its own right, which focuses students on each application. computer based tests are provided within a controlled and protected environment. Upon completion of the test, candidates will be given a temporary certificate of a pass or fail; the full certificate will then be sent by post.

    The MOS certification can benefit both students and businesses alike. Individuals will be able to provide creditable proof of Office proficiency: it will help with personal improvement, skills enhancement and career progression. It really adds weight to a CV!
