About our Ross House Dornoch campus ...

A picture of our picturesque Dornoch campus building

Ross House is set close to the impressive Dornoch beach area, within yards of Royal Dornoch Golf Course (rated the 10th best course in the world by World Golf Magazine, 2000). It is the base for our renowned golf programme, offering as it does full time courses in golf studies and golf management up to BA Honours level; in addition we offer part time / online courses in golf management as continuous professional development.

Included in our range of courses (full or part time) are Business, Administration and Computing Studies. The Higher National units in Business and Management can be delivered in a flexible format to suit work commitments or location preferences.

We also provide Equestrian Skills on a flexible study basis. Students attend the Ross House campus to study the theory of the course or make use of the computer facilities, whilst studying the larger part on their own terms in their favoured location. This course also provides the option to attend a local stable in order to gather that necessary 'hands on' experience.

After hours, the campus provides a broad range of evening courses including the ever popular Computing for Beginners, European Computer Driving Licence, Modern Languages, Music, and many more.

Research opportunities are currently available at this campus through the UHI Centre For History. The Centre for History is also the lead centre for the BA Honours in Scottish History, and BA Honours in History and Politics. This means that while the lecturers are based here, they are at the centre of the communications hub which delivers these courses through the UHI network of colleges.

Our excellent catering facilities moved in October 2009 into a unique hotel school venture, based in Burghfield House in Dornoch. This training hotel will give our students the opportunity to undergo training alongside the operation of a well run hotel, giving our students the advantage of learning by doing while at the same time learning in a real work environment. This will also the base for day release catering students from the local area who are part of our Chef's Modern Apprenticeship programme.

    Commercial solutions

We also provide a variety of qualifications, training programmes, and short courses which provide solutions for developing and updating industry and employment skills. These courses can be held in Thurso, Wick, Dornoch, Alness, or in house depending on demand.

    About Dornoch ...

The North Highland College is delighted to be able to use the 13th century cathedral to host the Awards Ceremony, held here every third year, allowing the college to give our students a day to remember in this wonderful setting. Many residents and visitors comment on the spectacular scene when our students, resplendent in their gowns, make their way through the town from Ross House to the Cathedral.

The ancient cathedral town of Dornoch has the advantage of a unique micro-climate which results in the lowest rainfall in Scotland. Have a look at the feature page on www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk to find out more.
