The Atlantic World 1492 - 1800: the Old World meets the New.
Available through the Centre for History, this course runs from September to December and is delivered by lecturers at the Centre for History and taught through a combination of online learning and video conference tutorials at your nearest UHI study site.
This module looks at the Atlantic World from a broad European perspective in terms of the expansion of European people, commerce, technology and ideals across the ocean. It will analyse the trans-Atlantic movement of people, both voluntary and involuntary, from Europe and Africa and contrast the type of societies that were established in the New World. In addition, it examines the cultural and ecological impact of Europeans upon the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Assessment comprises one primary source exercise (700 words), one essay (1500 words), one presentation and a one hour timed essay.
Module fee is currently £157, although this may change by start of course.
