Monica Barnetson
Monica Barnetson gave up a well paid full time job to achieve her ambition to become a beauty therapist. After studying hard at The North Highland College and passing through her course with flying colours, her goal was achieved.
Monica was discontented in her previous job and decided to take the plunge to do something she had a genuine passion for and attain her goal to achieve an SVQ Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy. Her biggest step was giving up a well paid job for a bursary, but she overcame this obstacle by getting two part time jobs to work around her studies. Building up relationships with the clients and sharing experiences with the other students as well as sticking to realistic treatment times really prepared her for life as a therapist. After her studies, Monica saw an opportunity in the local job market for a freelance beauty therapist and set up Revival Beauty Therapy. She has gradually built up her stock, equipment, and clientelle. Asked about what she enjoys about being her own boss, Monica says, "Achievement! I get up in the morning and work is fun. Job satisfaction is the best feeling." Monica's tips for anyone thinking of going it alone include a)don't be afraid of hard work, b)never turn out bad work, c)discretion and d)to always try to find ways to accommodate clients.
